Better by Bike
Better by Bike is a new programme hoping to increase the money in your pocket by making cycling your main form of transport. It is primarily focussed on parents struggling financially due to lack of local work or high transport costs.

Bike for Good has received funding to run a pilot project called Better By Bike who aim to work with 50 low-income households to overcome transport barriers, and in doing so, improve access to employment, education and essential services.
Bike for Good will work with participants over a 10-12 week period, during this time they will:
- provide a standard bike for each parent
- train them to cycle confidently and safely, plan safe routes
- offer a 2-day home mechanic course - essential bike maintenance
- offer additional opportunities to achieve recognised qualifications such as: First Aid, Cycle Trainer, Ride Leader, Cytech, Safeguarding and Health & Safety (if desired).
Essential Criteria
Applicants must:
- be of working age
- have a maximising household income goal e.g. training, apprenticeship or education
- reside within the Glasgow area
- be a Parent or Guardian of a child or young person 18 or under
- find transport costs are a barrier to change
- be interested in exploring active travel as a solution e.g. cycling.
- show evidence of stickability - programme commitment of 4 hours per week for 12 weeks
Not required:
- To be able to ride a bike, participants can be taught from scratch
- English as a first language e.g. interpreters can be provided
